Behavioral Interview Questions

Behavioral Interview Questions are based on the theory that the most accurate predictor of future behavior is past behavior in a similar situation.  In this type of interview questions, employers list down the core competencies or skills required for success in the job for which they are hiring and accordingly frame questions to evaluate the candidates.

When an interviewer asks Behavioral Interview Questions, they are looking for “behavior patterns” rather than “correct” answers.  Success in these interviews requires deliberate preparation. 

Following is a list of typical behavior interview questions based to help you master them :

1.Describe your typical day.  How do you go about deciding what to work on and prioritize ?

2.Tell me about an instance when you came up with an innovative solution. What was the challenge?

3.Tell me an example when you sold an idea or concept to your boss or seniors. How did you went around it ? What was the result?

4.Tell me an example when a co-worker or colleague criticized your work in front of others. How did you responded ? what happened after that ?

5.Tell me about an instance when you failed to meet a deadline. What went wrong ? Who was to be blamed ?

6.Tell me about an instance in which you faced lot of pressure or stress at work.  What did you do?

7.Tell me in detail about a problem you solved for your organization. How did you went about it ?

8.Tell me about process you use for keeping track of multiple ongoing projects in parallel. How do you stay focused?

9.Tell me about a time when you got colleagues who dislike each other to work together. How did you accomplished this?

10.Give me an example of a situation in which you used your fact-finding skills for solving an important problem.

11.Tell me about an instance where you put your needs aside to help colleagues to complete their work ? why did you did that ? is it right ?

12.Tell me an example when you went beyond the call of duty in order to get a job done.

  1. Tell me about a goal that you set for yourself and how successful or unsuccessful you were in meeting it.

14.Give me an experience when you pull together resources which were not under your control to deliver a result.

15.Tell me about a situation in which you failed to come to a decision. Why did you failed ?

16.Tell me about a time in which you felt that your communication skills were put to test.

17.Tell me few occasions when you had to conform to a policy or a rule with which you did not agree. What do you have to say about such rules ?

18.Tell me about the most creative work which you have done in your last job.

19.Give me example of ways that you have found to reduce the stress in the job or simply making the job more enjoyable.

20.Tell me about a specific example when you used good judgment and logical approach in solving a problem in last job.

21.Tell me one instance from your last job where you helped in building teamwork.

22.Tell me the biggest challenge you faced in last job and how did you went about solving it.

23.When working in a team, what role do you usually prefer ? Why ?

24.Tell me about a situation when one of your important suggestions was rejected by your seniors.

25.Everyone has to break rules sometimes.  Narrate an example of when you had to break one.

26.Describe the process you followed to reach the most important decision of your professional career.

27.Tell me a case when you failed to develop rapport with your peers and your supervisor. What went wrong ?

28.Tell me about a scenario, wherein you used your ability to negotiate.

29.Tell me few examples of ways you use, to minimize stress in your work life.

30.Tell me about one professional accomplishment that you are most proud of.
